There were flowers lining painted windows
Up and down the cornered streets;
Between doorways smiling children
Waved and sang to marching feet.
Beneath the shutters dangled banners
Waving in long-troubled saints;
Petals fell down guilded rainbows,
Hues of a thousand different paints.
Robed musicians led them onward
Down the cobblestone and gold;
Roses ushered every soldier
Of the flock into the fold.
At the sound of gladdened voices,
Every tongue and every knee
Knelt and sang His glorious praises
On this day, death's remedy.
In memory of Travis John Eiler
