Today on the way back from the province we saw hundreds of
trucks on a main road carrying garment workers home. It was somewhat sobering to
see so many faces staring back at us blankly after a long work day. It is estimated that there are around 600,000 garment workers in and around Phnom Penh (GMAC).
Working in a garment factory is very difficult, and usually most
of the workers are women. Many of the products made at these factories are
exported internationally, and I've heard an average paycheck is usually about $60 a
month. Recently I read that around 50% of the garments made in these factories end up on American shelves. Definitely food for thought.
Please remember our Khmer friend Nary as she is working to minister to these women. She talks to women as they leave the factory and invites them to an English class. Please also ask the Father for more people to minister to these precious women.
