About a month ago we took the girls from the center to the Zoo. We had a great time and everything went smoothly except for some car sickness issues (the kids are not used to riding in a vehicle so it only takes 10 or 15 minutes before someone's feeling sick).
Most of the girls had never been before and they got to be part of an outreach on our way to the zoo where they handed out meals to beggars. On the way to the zoo there is a road where older people sit and beg all day. Many times the kids we work with are the ones who are receiving, but we are trying to encourage them they have things they can do to help others and we wanted to give them an opportunity to physically give back. As we drove down this road we would periodically stop, and some of the local staff would get out with a couple children to hand out rice and chicken.
The girls had a great time on the excursion just outside the city and were worn out afterwards! We sang songs most of the way there and most of the girls slept the whole way back. It was a great day of fun away for all of them. Hope you enjoy the pictures!
There are lots of wild monkeys roaming around the zoo. I've heard they bite, but that didn't scare the staff away from trying to get a good selfie.
Taking a break for lunch.
The Staff
Despite appearances it was very hot. Actually, the hotter it is the more my Khmer friends tend to cover up- scarves, hats jackets- all because they are afraid of getting darker. I think their skin is such a beautiful tan, but they just don't agree with me!
