SWU Team Photo Blog

We had a team from our university visit us in May: our mentor and former professor, Dave Tolan, came with five students. As you can imagine, being able to share our life here with them firsthand is literally "worlds apart" from just talking about it in an update. They were awesome and we were so encouraged by their visit!

While they were here they were involved in helping at the NGO where Melissa and Timmy work (The Hard Places Community), doing cultural exchange activities with Ryan’s students, and interacting and encouraging various individuals in Cambodia.

I have uploaded various pictures from their time here below. Most of them are from their times with students, because we can’t post many of the pictures from the NGO on the Internet.

The team went with this group of students to one of the country's main genocide sites.

The team met with five different classes on different days to do cultural exchange activities where the students from America shared about their lives in America and the Cambodians shared about their lives.

Yes, Ryan does have Buddhist monks in some of his English classes.

This is one of Ryan's oldest students. He really hit it off with Dave and told him about his own life and how living through the Khmer Rouge has affected him.

Keep an eye out for a guest post from the team!

-Melissa
